Million Minutes wants young people to know that society needs them, that the Church needs them. They should know that their energy and vibrancy is valued and that we have faith in them to change their world. For this to be realised we need a society and a Church committed to making a real change for young people. We think this means making young people a priority and taking real time for them. So, inspired by Pope Francis’ vision put forward in his letter on youth, Christus Vivit, we work to inspire, accompany and equip the Church to reach out to more young people and to support them to be the means of change in their lives and world.
Local parishes, dioceses and organisations should be confident in engaging with a broad range of young people, inspired by the Pope’s call to “open the doors” of the Church. Million Minutes is committed to helping parishes to achieve this wholesome vision of youth work from Pope Francis’ . We help parishes to use their rich resources - people, buildings, experience and faith - to accompany young people to discover their gifts and to gain a deeper sense of purpose, creating a seamless garment of youth work. Courtyard equips Catholic parishes to reach out and meet vulnerable young people in their own context, and welcome them as part of the parish ‘courtyard’.

We want change the narrative and show society how wonderful young people are. Million Minutes host the national Celebrating Young People Awards, bringing together hundreds of young people, youth workers, teachers and supporters from across England and Wales . The Awards honour the achievements of those truly remarkable young people who make our communities and our world a better place. Their achievements are an inspiration for us all. Million Minutes believes that young people have the power to change the world. Because project finances can sometimes be a barrier for young people who want to do good in their community, Million Minutes offers grants to young people aged 11-25 for youth led social action initiatives. Inspired by our Catholic social teaching values we want to support young people to change their life and their world.

Our Lenten initiative is a chance for individuals, schools and parishes to stand in solidarity with young people who don’t have a voice. Money from sponsored silences carried out throughout the 40 days of lent are used to fund youth led social action projects across England and Wales, which allow young people to have a positive impact on their local areas. One participant of siLENT said “In amongst the chaos of normal life, it was great to have time alone in silence to reflect whilst I worked. I enjoyed doing the silence at work as it sparked conversations leading up to and after the day. The time I spent in silence was refreshing and rewarding as well as being a challenge, making it really worth while”.
