Q: What’s the age limit to be nominated for an award?

A: Young people aged 11 – 25 who are committing themselves to the common good are eligible to be nominated.

Q: Can I nominate a group of young people?

A: Yes! We welcome nominations for groups up to a maximum of four young people.

Q: Will my nomination be automatically considered for Million Minutes national Celebrating Young People Awards? Or will I have to re-apply when nominations open?

A: Yes, every nomination that is entered will be automatically considered for our national awards. We may ask you for more information.

Q: Can I nominate someone for something that they did a few years ago?

A: No. The nomination should be for promoting the common good that has taken place in the last year and hasn’t previously been recognised with an award from Million Minutes. We also advise that the individual or group should not already have been recognised through another award scheme, as the intention of this award is to celebrate people who may otherwise not be celebrated.

Q: Does the young person have to be Catholic?

A: No, the young person you are nominating does not have to be Catholic, but the nomination should come from within the Catholic community in England and Wales.

Q: What do you meant by the common good?

A: "The Common Good is the shared life of a society in which everyone can flourish - as we act together in different ways that all contribute towards that goal, enabled by social conditions that mean every single person can participate. We create these conditions and pursue that goal by working together across our differences, each of us taking responsibility, according to our calling and ability." [Together For The Common Good]
This means that young people are working towards the common good are striving to ensure that no one gets left behind, that everyone can contribute and each their potential. Those working for the common good seeking to include all people irrespective of race, belief, gender, age or sexual orientation as they believe in the inherent dignity of all human beings. They also work towards establishing the conditions needed for everyone to take part in society, improving the environment and situations around them so that the common good may flourish.

Q: How will my young person/group be considered for a cash grant?

A: Please read our general criteria for tips and tricks - in the nomination form we are looking for those young people who go above and beyond, and who are committed to their action. The action must be youth-led. Read our award criteria here before you apply.

Q: How will my young person(s) receive the award?

A: The award will be presented to the young person(s) by a person from within the local community - this could be a Million Minutes champion or a school/parish/church leader.

Q: Can I give more information than what’s on the form?

A: The nomination is a two-stage process – you will be invited to give more details about the nominee if your nomination is considered for a cash grant.
