Cardinal Hume Award Recipients for living out the option for the poor
The Year 7 class from Notre Dame Catholic College, Liverpool, heard about a St Peter’s and St Paul’s school in Uganda and how few resources and facilities the children there had in comparison to themselves. Developing a real interest in the school they started to research both the school and the local area to improve their understanding of ways they could offer support. As a group they wanted to help these children to have some of the facilities available to all pupils in Britain. The group raise money through sponsored silences, run a fair trade shop during lunch times and write letters to the children making links and sharing their own experiences.
Their teacher explains “It has been inspiring for me to watch a class of twelve year old children showing such ambition and drive to help other pupils in this way”
