SIDE-BY-SIDE EVENTS
A key element of the implementation of these resources, is an immersive ‘Side-by-side’ event, exploring the art of accompaniment.
As a synodal Church, Pope Francis is inviting us to journey together, encountering each other and listening deeply to one another as we walk side-by-side.
“Are you prepared for this adventure?” - Pope Francis
As part of a ‘Side-by-side’ event, we explore the vision of a Church that walks together and accompanies people in life and faith. We’ll consider how deepening our practice of accompaniment will help our Catholic community be recognised as relevant and impactful, and how it will offer us hope for the growth of our parishes and communities.
“The Church will have to initiate everyone - priests, religious, and laity - into this “art of accompaniment” which teaches us to remove our sandals before the sacred group of the other” - Pope Francis
How do we accompany people better? We’ll learn together how we can each grown in our confidence, experience, and skill of walking alongside others. We’ll discover ways to promote a Catholic community which seeks to include everyone, and we’ll encounter concrete ways of both living the Gospel and proclaiming God to the world.
You will leave having begun a practical exploration of deepening your practice of accompaniment. You will take away audio-visual group resources to continue the exploration with others in your parish, school, or community.
We invite you to arrange your event so that people attend with a partner, to accompany one another throughout the day (or arrange for people to be paired up with someone).
The day will include input from Million Minutes’ ‘Proximity’ Project which is developing resources to support accompaniment.
